How I Pick My Fragrances

Did you know that smell-sensing neurons in the nose extend directly to the olfactory bulb of the brain? The olfactory system, responsible for the sense of smell, is closely connected to the brains regions associated with emotions and memories. Certain scents can trigger vivid recollections and evoke strong emotional responses. In fact, these recollections are stronger than all other senses or modalities. For me, I love that it may bring back a pleasant memory or remind me of someone. I might paint a picture in my mind of what the fragrance reminds me of. It can inspire the imagination to go for a walk in the woods, or sit on the beach and watch the sunset, or curl up in front of a fire and dream. I want it to ignite the senses, to experience it and have fun with it.

The Product

At Zen Kat, the candles & wax melts are made with 100%

soy wax.  This is a 100% natural material that comes from a renewable source - soybeans.  It is a non-toxic and clean burning wax.  The wicks are cotton braided coreless wicks with thin paper threads woven into the cotton.  There is no zinc or lead in the wicks.  The fragrances used are phthalate free and made without any of the ingredients on the California Proposition 65 List.  They are clean fragrances, free of toxic or carcinogenic ingredients.  They are safe not only for the consumer, but also for the maker.  Many of the fragrances are sold under the brand of  "Clean Scents".

Candle Care Instructions

Always trim your wick to 1/4 inch before you light your candle.

Never leave the trimmed wick, matches, or other impurities in the wax pool.

If the flame is burning too high, smoking or flickering, then extinguish the candle.

Only burn your candle for 1-4 hours in one burning period.

A good rule of thumb is, 1 hour of burn time for each 1 inch of inside diameter of candle. The 3 ounce candle is 2 3/8" diameter, so proper burntime would be 2-3 hours.  Burning a candle for too long can cause sooting and mushrooming.

Make sure your candle is not near blowing vents or under ceiling fans.

Do not leave your candle in the heat or near a hot window as it may melt.

Wax Melt Instructions

Break off 1-2 wax cubes from the package. Close package to seal aroma.

Turn on your electric warmer. If you have a tea light warmer, light the candle and place it below the warming dish.

Do not leave your wax warmer unattended.

Keep wax cubes and warmer out of the reach of children and pets.

Never use cleaning products on the wax warmer as the chemicals may release harmful chemicals when warmed.

To clean the wax melt from the warmer, wait until it has cooled and simply use your hand to pop it out of the dish.

You can also clean out the wax by turning off the warmer and adding cotton balls to soak up the wax while it is still liquid.

You can reuse your wax cubes for as long as the scent lasts.
